E-mails are kept on the vcoms.net mail server until you
have your Outlook Express get your e-mails.
When all the e-mails have been received on your PC - your PC
informs the vcoms.net mail server that all
the e-mails have been received and to remove them from the vcoms.net mail server.
The e-mails are not removed until you get all your e-mails.
If your connection to the internet keeps going down during the
download of your e-mails to your PC,
the vcoms.net mail server will not get the removal notice since
all the e-mails were not received by your PC.
This is a connection problem, and you should check your cables,
dial-up settings, and any routers or wireless connections.
If you still have problems maintaining a connection, call us
for assistance.
1) Bring up Outlook Express. If it is not on your desktop,
look at Start - Programs and you should find it.

THE E-MAIL PROGRAM ON VISTA MACHINES IS CALLED WINDOWS MAIL.

It is a different but similar e-mail program from Microsoft.

The settings are generally in the same order and items are
called the same names.
2) Click on TOOLs at top of Outlook Express.

Click on Accounts toward bottom of list.
3) Click on Mail tab.
4) In the large box - where the accounts are show - make sure the vcoms.net account is high-lighted.
5) Click the Properties button to the right.
6) Click on the Advanced Tab.
7) Server Port Numbers. Verify you have the following :

Outgoing mail server (SMTP) : 25

NOTE : Some DSL customers may have a special SMTP server port
and should stay with that special port number.

Incoming mail server (POP3) : 110

For both - uncheck/leave blank This Server Requires a
Secure Connection (SSL).

Update if necessary.
8) Server Timeouts. Verify the following : about 2 minutes

You can move the slider between short and long to get
to about 2 minutes.
9) Delivery. Verify the following :

Leave a copy of messages on the server is UNCHECKED.

If this is checked - your PC will never notify the
vcoms.net mail server to erase the e-mails on the server.

The e-mails will still be there the next time you get e-mails.
10) If you had to make any changes - click APPLY at the bottom of the screen.
11) See if that has fixed the problem.

If not - please follow the next set of instructions.
1) Bring up Outlook Express. If it is not on your desktop,
look at Start - Programs and you should find it.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS MAY BE CALLED INTERNET MAIL ON VISTA MACHINES.
2) Click on TOOLs at top of Outlook Express.

Click on OPTIONS toward bottom of list.
3) Click on General tab.
4) Check for New Messages every X minutes.

If you have this set to too few minutes, your PC will
keep interrupting the process of getting e-mails.
That can cause problems.

If you are on dial-up - set this to 30 minutes.

If you are using DSL - set this to 10 minutes.

If you are expecting some very large e-mails with
many pictures or images -

you may wish to UNCHECK this and not have your PC
automatically check for e-mails.

You can always get your e-mails using
the Send/Receive icon at the top of Outlook Express.
5) If you have made any changes - click APPLY at the bottom of the window.
6) See if that has fixed the problem.

If not - please follow the next set of instructions.
1) Bring up WEB MAIL.

If you need instructions -
they are at VCOMS.NET How To

This gives you access to the e-mails that are on
the vcoms.net mail server.

You are not accessing what is on your PC.
2) Look at your inbox. The column that shows the size is
how many bytes each e-mail is.

Any e-mail with a large number that you don't need - check
the box at the end of that line and click Delete at the
bottom of the screen.

Any other e-mail that you don't need - check and Delete.
3) Does your e-mail program stop at a certain spot each time ??

Remove the e-mail that was being transmitted when the
e-mail downloading stopped.

There are some codes that are in e-mails that used to
confuse Outlook Express.

We have not seen this problem in a while, but if you
have an older version of Outlook Express, this might
occur.
4) Once you have cleaned out any e-mails you do not need,
and any suspect e-mails,

log out of Web Mail and try using Outlook Express on your PC for e-mails.
